Copy editors
Responsible for first and second round editing. First round editing includes working with the author to polish the article and editing for content, grammar, and structure. Second round editing includes directly fixing small details.
Preferably have experience with writing and/or research.
Graphic design experience is not necessary.
Managing editors
Responsible for creating spreads for articles after copy-editing.
Have good intuition for graphic design (color, layout, etc.)
Preferably have experience with InDesign or Canva, or is willing to learn. If you don’t have experience with graphic design software, it’s alright! You’ll receive plenty of training.
This year, we’re upping our design game to spotlight each work in a well-designed spread. If you’re interested in making these spreads/learning how to do so, we strongly encourage you to join! (Examples below taken from Equilibrium, an economics magazine Sia ran 2024-25)
Writing and research experience are not necessary.
The bulk of work as an editor will be done between early February to mid-April. Managing editors will receive training on how to use InDesign to follow our style guide.
